About Dr Mike Barry
Dr Mike Barry is a clinical psychologist providing psychological services to the Canberra community.
Mike completed Doctoral studies in clinical psychology at the Australian National University (ANU) and is a registered psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia (PBA).
He has PBA Area of Practice Endorsement as a Clinical Psychologist, is a Member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and a Fellow of the APS Clinical College.
Mike has previously served on both the National and ACT Committees of the APS Clinical College.

Mike provides treatment for depression, anxiety, workplace bullying and stress, and transition to retirement issues, but specialises in the treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Complex Trauma and other trauma related issues.
In his clinical practice, he focuses on the treatment of adults and due to his military background, has broad experience working with military and emergency service personnel, and veterans.
Therapeutic Orientation
Through his clinical training, private practice and volunteer work, Dr Barry has accumulated broad clinical experience working in crisis intervention, mental health and the provision of psychotherapy through private practice.
Mike works primarily from a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) orientation, and employs a values based approach to his practice.
He also uses Trauma-Focussed CBT, Schema Therapy and other trauma focussed approaches including Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Imagery Rescripting for the treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and complex trauma.
In his clinical practice, Mike focuses on the treatment of adults, and also has broad experience working with military and emergency service personnel, and veterans.

He has received additional formal training in the use of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Schema Therapy, Trauma Focussed CBT and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR).
Background
Prior to becoming a psychologist, Mike served for 28 years in a range of command, regimental and staff appointments in the Australian Army, deploying twice on active service.
